5th Swiss Absa Cape Epic Reunion

On Saturday, November 17th, the traditional Swiss Absa Cape Epic Reunion took place. The reunion was created, 5 years ago, to reunite Swiss riders in autumn, and to revive the unforgettable Absa Cape Epic week. This year, Mirjam Bucher, two times volunteer and 2012 Epic rider and finisher, took over the organisation.

To start the reunion, a 2.5 hr mountain bike tour in the beautiful area of Zurich Oberland was organised. In addition, not only participants from 2012 but also those riding in 2013 were invited to participate. "I was surprised by the very high interest by the invitees to participate in the bike tour and it was quiet impressing to go biking with so many people, all living this Epic spirit," says Bucher. 

Konny Looser, Stöckli Pro rider who has seen the Epic podium several times, very kindly agreed to take over the duty of the tour guide and was happily showing no less than 40 enthusiastic Cape Epic mountain bikers some of his favourite trails on his home mountain "Bachtel". On the route, a culinary surprise awaited the riders: a special set up waterpoint with energy bars, gels and hot drinks.

Luckily, Petrus the weather god was on the mountain bikers' side, and provided shafts of sunlight to warm the 8 degree day, which cannot taken for granted at this time of the year. Many thanks also to Konny Looser's father who provided the shower facilities at his company to all riders. 

The day ended with dinner, DVD and a show, and returning volunteers Maya Kägi and Miriam Geisser joined. The newbies for 2013 took the opportunity to get as much information from the experienced riders and were very grateful for this opportunity of information exchange.
