Stander and Webb, pretty in pink

2016-11-14

Just 6 months after giving birth to a gorgeous baby boy, Thomas Burry,  ‘Mom’ Cherise Stander is itching to get back in the game.

The Specialized Duo of Cherise Stander and Mikayla Webb will be lining up with the UCI women's field on the 19th of March 2017, at Meerendal.

Cherise Taylor-Stander shot to fame in 2008 when she represented South Africa at the Olympics as a Road Cyclist and later went on to win the Argus Cycle Tour in 2014.

Both girls have South African multi stage racing experience, Cherise raced the Epic in 2013 as a commemorative race shortly after just after losing husband, Burry in a tragic accident.  Mikayla will be remembered from racing the Absa Cape Epic in 2016 with her Mom, for the I Love Boobies CANSA ACTIVE TEAM, finishing 13th in the Women's category.

The Specialized Girls will be pretty in pink, racing for Team CANSA-Active for 2017, ‘with an eye on a top 10 UCI Women's finish, for sure’ says Mikayla, ‘we are hoping there may be an African Women's Jersey…. Just saying?’

“But more than that, says Cherise, it’s time for us to make a difference, to make more than just the race count.“

In 2016, of the 650 Teams just 22 of these were women's teams and only 15 Teams finished the Absa Cape Epic, proving that you need to be pretty tough to take the #untamed race on.

The race goes to remote areas in South Africa. There are zero cancer screening facilities in these little towns. Our aim is to educate, create awareness and raise funds, to get more Mobile Screening Clinics into the rural areas. Early detection of breast cancer gives the best chance of survival.
