Entry Information

The first step to completing the Absa Cape Epic is to secure an entry. The Absa Cape Epic is extremely popular and has been oversubscribed every year since inception. The early bird entries and the South African and international lotteries are by far the most common methods to secure an entry.

Historically, early bird entries have sold out within minutes while the lotteries are many times oversubscribed.

You can also enter via one of our charities (at a premium) or join the volunteer programme to get a feel for the event and guarantee an entry for the following year.

The full list of entry types include:

Early Bird 100 slots are available to anyone, South African or international, on a first-come-first-served basis, the day after the previous year's race finishes. The advantage is that your entry is secured immediately and you have a full year of training available. Early bird entries are automatically charged in ZAR or USD based on the South African or International entrant.
SA Lottery Only available to South African residents with a valid SA ID number. The lottery opens immediately after the Early Bird entries sell out, and closes on 30 May.  If you are unsuccessful in the international or South African lottery, and you still want to ride the race, be sure to take up your option to register on the waiting list.
International Lottery  The international team entry fee applies to all riders without a SA ID number. The lottery opens immediately after the Early Bird entries sell out, and closes on 30 May.
Media Available on request, but these are limited. The earlier you apply the better your chances of success.
Volunteer Absa Cape Epic volunteers receive a guaranteed entry to the following year's race.
Charity Charity entries allow you to support a good cause and ride the Absa Cape Epic. Each of our partner charities is allocated a limited number of entries which they sell through their channels at their discretion.
UCI Reserved for top UCI registered riders and allocated to riders at our discretion via the UCI rider application process.
Exxaro Bursaries Our official Development Academy Partner, Exxaro, offers a limited number of complimentary entries, at their discretion, to teams where both riders are Historically Disadvantaged South Africans under the age of 26 years.

Qualifier Races:

There are currently two races which serve as qualifier events to the Absa Cape Epic .  Both of these races have guaranteed entries allocated to age category winners as well as via a lucky draw amongst successful finishers.

The Pioneer The Pioneer is a 6-day Mountain Bike Stage Race through New Zealand’s Southern Alps. The race traverses through New Zealand’s pristine high country. The brutal nature of the challenge, combined with the experience makes this a true pioneering race.
Swiss Epic The Swiss Epic is a 6-day Mountain Bike Stage Race which takes place in the Valais, Switzerland. The race navigates across spectacular Alpine landscapes on flowing trails in an Alpine surrounding with breathtaking panoramic views. An unforgettable Alpine adventure!

Once you have secured one of the team entries, you will need to decide in which racing category your team will ride. The categories are: Men, Women, Mixed, Masters or Grand Masters. (Please see our race rules for the definitions of the age related categories.)

Early Bird entries and Lottery tickets are sold to individuals - hence you don't need to know your prospective partner's details at the time of registration. Only after you have secured your entry will we request your partner's details. Click on the links below to find out more about each type of entry.

Please note that you will need to be signed into your online profile on this website to apply for each type of entry.
