Entry Information

Dates: 17 – 24 March 2019
Entry Fee: R82 900

The first step to completing the Absa Cape Epic is to secure an entry. The Absa Cape Epic is extremely popular and has been oversubscribed every year since inception. The early bird entries and lotteries are by far the most common methods to secure an entry.

Historically, early bird entries have sold out within minutes while the lotteries are many times oversubscribed.

You can also enter via one of our charities (at a premium) or join the volunteer programme to get a feel for the event and guarantee an entry for the following year.

Once you have secured one of the team entries, you will need to decide in which racing category your team will ride. The categories are: Men, Women, Virgin Active Mixed, Dimension Data Masters or Grand Masters. (Please see our race rules for the definitions of the age related categories.)

Early Bird entries and Lottery Applications are sold to individuals - hence you don't need to know your prospective partner's details at the time of registration. Only after you have secured your entry will we request your partner's details. Click on the links below to find out more about each type of entry.

Please note that you will need to be signed into your online profile on this website to apply for each type of entry. Register now if you don't yet have a profile.   If you already have an online profile make sure that your passport or ID number is correct.  Entries are allocated according to ID number or Passport number.

Entry Types

Entry TypeDescription
Early Bird 100 slots are available to anyone, on a first-come-first-served basis, the day after the previous year's race finishes. The advantage is that your entry is secured immediately and you have a full year of training available.
Lottery The lottery opens immediately after the Early Bird entries sell out, and closes on 31 May.  If you are unsuccessful in the lottery, and you still want to ride the race, be sure to take up your option to register on the waiting list.
Media  Available on request, but these are limited. The earlier you apply the better your chances of success.
Volunteer  Absa Cape Epic volunteers receive a guaranteed entry to the following year's race.
Charity  Charity entries allow you to support a good cause and ride the Absa Cape Epic. Each of our partner charities is allocated a limited number of entries which they sell through their channels at their discretion.
UCI  Reserved for top UCI registered riders and allocated to riders at our discretion via the UCI rider application process.
Development  The Absa Cape Epic has partnered with 3 development academies across the country who each have an allocation of entries for Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) riders under the age of 26. Additionally should you have secured funding and are an HDSA team, there is an allocation of reserved entries to allow access to the race.

Epic Series Qualifier Races

With Early Bird entries selling out in seconds every year, it’s become appreciably difficult just getting to the Absa Cape Epic start line. The Epic Series provides riders with another – albeit challenging – opportunity to gain an entry to the Untamed African MTB Race. There are currently three races that comprise the Epic Series portfolio, each of which serve as qualifier events to the Absa Cape Epic. They offer guaranteed slots to age category winners as well as a lottery for riders who've successfully completed each event: The Pioneer, Perskindol Swiss Epic and Reef to Reef.

RaceRace Description
The Pioneer The Pioneer is a 6-day Mountain Bike Stage Race through New Zealand’s Southern Alps. The race traverses New Zealand’s pristine high country. The brutal nature of the challenge, combined with the experience makes this a true pioneering race. Details here
