I entered the Absa Cape Epic...
I entered the Cape Epic to take on a major personal and philanthropic challenge to see if I can endure such a physical/mental pursuit, and to raise awareness and funds (goal: US,720 = to per the 48,720 vertical feet of the race) to help underprivileged kids get active and play sports.

Cape Epic --- this is it!

I entered the Absa Cape Epic...
Its a great opportunity to travel and participate in a highly regarded mountain bike event, challenge myself, meet great people, and at the same time raise money for Kids In The Game, a charity that helps get disadvantaged youth into sports.

Best Results:
Racing in various 24 hour events with friends (made the podium once); suffering through the Leadville 100 three times; have also done some other 100 mile mountain bike races. I'm just a guy in the middle of the pack trying to have fun while testing myself and suffering on the bike.

Why Riding: We are riding for KIDS In The GAME, a nonprofit that helps disadvantaged youth from low-income families, youth that are physically or mentally challenged, and kids that are “at-risk” get active and gain access to sports programs. As kids growing up all we did was play sports; backyard pick-up games and organized football, baseball, and basketball. The thought of a kid not being able play sports because their family could not afford it was unfathomable. All youth that wanted to play did! The world has changed and with obesity rates soaring and the cost of youth sports rising, so many kids are inactive and left on the sidelines. Nelson Mandela once said, "There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul, than the way in which it treats it children." His wisdom is so true….so let's help these kids have the opportunity to play sports, be on a team, learn positive life values and have fun! We hope this sufferfest to endure the miles and 48,720 feet of vertical climbing over 8 days serves as an inspiration to unite people on supporting youth development by providing access to sports programs one kid at a time. So please join us from your bike seat (or couch), and let’s get some kids in sports to better prepare them for the game of life!
