The Mother City plays host to the world’s flagship mountain bike stage race. The ivy covered, sandstone, walls of the University of Cape Town provide the backdrop while Table Mountain National Park provides the battleground for the Absa Cape Epic Prologue.

Cape Town is the oldest city in South Africa and is a holiday seekers paradise. What was once a fishing village has evolved into a multi-cultural metropolis and playground for adventure seekers from every corner of the globe.

Renowned as a place where people come to work and play; conducting business and enjoying the natural landscapes of mountain and sea, spectacular and pristine beaches, architecture, cuisine, music and dance.

Cape Town also boasts the top five national attractions in South Africa: Table Mountain, a world heritage site and one of the finalists in the New 7 Wonders of Nature competition; the V&A Waterfront, a unique shopping and holiday experience on a scenic working harbour; Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned; the Cape Town Wine Routes, where some of the world's best wines are produced; and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, internationally acclaimed as one of the great botanical gardens of the world.

In 2021 the University of Cape Town (UCT) will once again host the Prologue as riders tackle the course in the pristine Table Mountain National Park.

Riders are able to pre-ride the 2021 Absa Cape Epic Prologue route on the slopes of Table Mountain, for more information on where to acquire the correct permits, please click here.

Please note that should you opt to pre-ride the route, South African National Parks encourages you to do so in groups to avoid any injuries or unfortunate run-ins.
