University of Cape Town

The University of Cape Town (UCT), is Africa’s leading research institution and aspires to become a premier academic meeting point between South Africa, the rest of Africa and the world. 

In 2019 the University plays host, to the inaugural day of the Absa Cape Epic. The Prologue is more than just a scene setter though; it will provide the first shake-up of the general classification and hints of who has prepared best for the herculean task at hand. 

Hermanus High School

Situated close to the town centre, the school will host the Absa Cape Epic as the first race village for 2019. With lots to do and experience why not come along and see the worlds best mountain bikers in action and experience the race village. The Overstrand Municipality features the whale coast and Kogelberg Biosphere so there are plenty of activities to  experience throughout the region.  

Hermanus is known for whales, fynbos, adventure and wine and now also for mountain biking.  Thanks to the many adventure races and with a special appreciation of what the Absa Cape Epic has done to highlight the numerous routes of our region, cycling is now one of our top leisure offerings. 

Oak Valley Estate

Oak Valley is a diversified farm situated in the Elgin Valley some 70km east of Cape Town. The main farming activities include; fruit farming of apples and pears; fresh cut-flower production – the largest in the Cape; free-range acorn-fed pigs, and free-range cattle grazing on open pastures. Vineyards were planted in 1985 with a focus on producing outstanding cool climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.  The race village is situated on the sports fields of the estate and amongst the oak trees and will offer an oasis for the riders and fans to enjoy the race vibe. 

This destination is your complete Cape country experience comprising eight charming towns in the Overberg region, each with its own distinctive character. Locals and tourists alike can jump in their vehicles and experience an epic adventure that starts less than an hour from Cape Town, just over Sir Lowry’s Pass, and stretches for 100 km along the N2 highway.

University of Stellenbosch

Standing side by side with the town’s sturdy old oak trees for a hundred years, the University of Stellenbosch – Stellenbosch University (SU) today – has grown into a leading research-intensive university on the African continent with the vision to be globally recognised as excellent, inclusive and innovative, and where knowledge is advanced in service of society.

The university hosts us as we make our way to the grand Finale at Val de Vie. Stellenbosch has been referred to as the mountain biking capital of South Africa, so we expect the race village to be packed with fans and spectators over the 2 days. Make sure you come and visit. 

Val de Vie Estate

After 8 days of battling the elements and screaming legs, the #Untamed African MTB race culminates at the pristine Val de Vie Estate. Besides supporting the finishers, it is a great day out for the whole family.
