City of Cape Town - Host City

Absa Cape Epic host city, Cape Town, offers a tantalising menu of things to do before and after the race

Come early & stay longer! That’s the message to the more than 40 000 regional and international visitors expected in the city for the Absa Cape Epic each year.

Cape Town hots a multitude of events in the weeks leading up to and immediately after the race, ranging from Tens rugby to street carnivals, the International Jazz Festival and the Two Oceans Marathon.  In-between all of this is the Untamed African MTB Race.  The City of Cape Town is a proud host and supporter of the event, which contributes a whopping R300m to the local economy and which has raised millions for local charities.

Cape Town and its surrounding towns provide unspoilt, natural beauty for riders as they traverse through approximately 800km of the country’s most magnificent terrain.  In addition, the city offers riders and visitors a variety of things to do and places to see when they’re not in the saddle.

The city and surrounds boast several luxury spas and specialised rejuvenation clinics, eight Blue flag beaches and a working harbour,  a world heritage site, museums, more than 12 golf courses within the city limits, six top tourist attractions, theatres, world class cuisine and shopping districts.

The city secured the top spot on the prestigious New York Times’ list of 52 Places to visit in 2014, ahead of destinations such as Los Angeles, the Vatican and the Seychelles.  Although widely considered a leisure destination, Cape Town is also an important trading post and the springboard into Africa for people and freight. The city’s regional economic growth is driven by tourism, finance, infrastructure, food and wine, logistics and creative industries.

There is diverse supporting infrastructure including four universities, broadband infrastructure, the Sport Science Institute, hospitals and medical facilities and an abundance of accommodation solutions from five star hotels to hostels.
