#THINKWATER with Woolies

2018-02-15

Woolies has supported the Cape Epic for nine years as the official food sponsor. Throughout this time, we’ve supported Epic riders with countless, nutritious and carefully considered race packs and top-up meals. This year, as the Western Cape is experiences its worst drought in over 100 years we ask riders to spare a thought for the water crisis by always using water sparingly and avoiding unnecessary wastage.

How Woolworths is making every drop count:

  1. Cultivating water savings: through our Farming for the Future programme we are working with 350 fruit, vegetable, wine and flower suppliers to use water more efficiently and only irrigate when necessary.
  2. Keeping our water clean: Farming for the Future means using less chemical fertilisers and pesticides, preventing harmful substances from going back into our water sources.
  3. Clearing alien vegetation: invasive plant species consume 1.5 billion cubic metres of water per year nationally. Through our investment in the WWF Water Balance project, we’re helping to remove invasive species and replenish precious water resources.
  4. Measuring to manage: In our own stores, we measure over 95% of our water usage and have reduced our relative consumption by 56% since 2007.

Remember, everything we wear, farm and eat, it all needs water. Every drop makes a difference. Join us on our Good Business Journey and #THINKWATER. See what water saving measures will be included in this year’s race – click here.
