Wellington wins best town spirit award

2018-05-18

The Drakenstein town of Wellington has won the best town spirit award for the 2018 Absa Cape Epic, with Huguenot High and Primary Schools walking away with the prize for the best stage location

Drakenstein Municipality – 2018 Absa Cape Epic Official Destination Partner and the largest local municipality in the Western Cape outside the City of Cape Town – hosted the race’s riders, teams, organisers and sponsors for no less than four days (22 – 25 March 2018).

“The Drakenstein region and specifically Wellington has been a firm favourite with the Absa Cape Epic for a number of editions of the race,” said Glyn Broomberg, Head of Race Operations for the Absa Cape Epic. “Not only are we able to provide riders with an awesome riding experience due to the extensive trail network in the area, the town of Wellington and its people are a pleasure to have on board.”

Recognising the Drakenstein Local Tourism Association’s key role and contribution, the Municipality is extremely proud of this joint achievement. The Municipality believes it is the perfect illustration of Drakenstein’s enthusiasm, dedication, rich sport history and excellent service delivery when it comes to hosting world-class sporting events such as the Absa Cape Epic.

The prizes were handed over at an official function on 17 May 2018 held at Diemersfontein Estate.
