Three days into the 2012 Absa Cape Epic and Team Absa is off to a good start.
Vanessa Haywood
After a
nervous start all 10 riders finished well at the Prologue stage with Vanessa
Haywood and Clayton leading the pack with a time of 2:06.01,9 in the mixed team category. They were followed closely by Nico
Panagio and Sean Kristafor in the men’s category who came in with a time of 2:18.24,6.
Aside from a few technical glitches, the extreme heat, and a fall or two
by Elana Meyer, the team finished Stage 1 safely and within the cut-off time.
Joel Stransky and Max Gebhardt were the first pair to cross the line at a time of
7:47.28,3. The Rookie and the Rock, Elana Meyer and Ernst Viljoen were the last
to come in at 8:40.40,1. “Stage 1
was very tough,” says team manager Ernst Viljoen. “The hot weather and
difficult route were quite a challenge!”
“Stage 2 was much better today. The route was scenic and much easier than
Stage 1. I am pleased to report that all 10 riders finished today in good time
and everyone is still physically in good shape,” says Viljoen.
So far Team
Absa has raised a cumulative total of R 39,000.00 for their nominated
