The first step to completing the Absa Cape Epic is securing an entry!

The Absa Cape Epic has been oversubscribed every year since inception. Although entries are limited, there are a variety of ways to reserve your team's spot on the start line, from Early Bird entries – which typically sell out instantaneously – to riding for a cause through one of the official charities, to entering the Lottery. You could even complete one of the Epic Series qualifier races. Early Bird entries and Lottery Applications are sold to individuals - hence you don't need to know your prospective partner's details at the time of registration.

Once you have secured an entry for your team, you will need to decide on the racing category that your team will participate in.

Please note that you will need to be signed into your online profile on this website to apply for each type of entry. Register now if you don't yet have a profile. If you already have an online profile make sure that your passport or ID number is correct. Entries are allocated according to ID number or Passport number.

Click on the links below to find out more about each type of entry.

Entry TypeDescription
Early Bird 100 slots are available to anyone, on a first-come-first-served basis, the day after the previous year's race finishes. The advantage is that your entry is secured immediately and you have a full year of training available.
Lottery The Lottery opens immediately after the Early Bird entries sell out, and closes on 31 May.  If you are unsuccessful in the lottery and you still want to ride the race, be sure to take up your option to register on the waiting list.
Media  Available on request, but these are limited. The earlier you apply the better your chances of success.
Volunteer  Absa Cape Epic volunteers receive a guaranteed entry to the following year's race.
Charity  Charity entries allow you to support a good cause and ride the Absa Cape Epic. Each of our partner charities is allocated a limited number of entries which they sell through their channels at their discretion.
UCI  Reserved for top UCI registered riders and allocated to riders at our discretion via the UCI rider application process.
Development  The Absa Cape Epic has partnered with a number of development academies across the country who each have an allocation of entries for Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) riders under the age of 26. Additionally should you have secured funding and are an HDSA team, there is an allocation of reserved entries to allow access to the race.

Epic Qualifier Races

The Epic Series is a global portfolio of best-in-class mountain bike stage races in which riders challenge themselves on world-famous trails, find hidden gems and share a premium riding experience with some of the biggest names in the sport, all while surrounded by iconic landscapes.

With Early Bird entries selling out in seconds every year, it’s become appreciably difficult just getting to the Absa Cape Epic start line. The Epic Series provides riders with another – albeit challenging – opportunity to gain an entry into the Untamed African MTB Race. There are currently five races that comprise the Epic Series portfolio, each of which serve as qualifier events to the Absa Cape Epic.

They offer guaranteed slots to age category winners as well as a lottery for riders who've successfully completed each event: The Pioneer, Swiss Epic, Reef to Reef, Cape to Cape, and Port to Port.
