We look forward to welcoming you to the immaculate trails of Western Cape. In order to deliver you the safest race experience possible in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be implementing best practice guideline measures at the Absa Cape Epic.

5 Guiding Principles:

1. Hygiene awareness

  • Hand sanitiser and hand washing stations will be readily available around our race villages and venues.
  • Regular cleaning of common venue areas.
  • Staff and crew will use face masks and gloves while working.
  • We ask everyone to wear a face mask around our race villages and venues when in close proximity (< 1.5m) to others.

2. Screening and education

  • Appropriate personal health, personal hygiene and safe support education and training will be provided for staff and crew in necessary functional areas.
  • Riders, staff and crew will be required to fill out a health screening questionnaire and signed declaration, which will be required to attend the event.

3. Density reduction

  • Entries to the 2021 event are currently limited to 500 riders (250 teams).
  • Instituting measures to increase space for riders throughout the race villages and venues.
  • Enable appropriate physical distancing (>1.5 m) whenever possible.

4. Touchpoint minimisation

  • Reducing or removing touchpoints and points of interaction between riders, staff and crew without compromising event safety or security.

5. Rider personal responsibility

  • Riders are enabled to determine their individual level of personal responsibility to further minimise interaction and touchpoints with staff, crew and fellow riders.
  • Riders should review and embrace our rider commitment.
