I entered the Absa Cape Epic...
My husband and I always wanted to come back for a THIRD EPIC and it's taken us 4 years to return to this extraordinary event. I feel privileged and humbled to be able to take part in Epic 2020. Our journey to the start line this year has been full of obstacles, but I think this is probably the case for most of the riders who will be lining up with us in 2020! For a while now I've had this feeling that maybe all these trials on our preparation journey are signalling that maybe Epic 2020 is not 'meant to be' for us. I have been very very close to giving up more than once! But then I remember once again to just keep moving. This is what makes it a privilege to take part in an event like the Absa Cape Epic: it challenges you and thereby elevates you to a more engaged, more intense, more meaningful way of living. And then it humbles you by making you realise you are only human and cannot control things and cannot escape suffering. All you can do is to keep pedalling and believe that it will get easier. And then there it is: a superfun downhill, a fellow rider's joke, a welcoming waterpoint, a magnificent view, the thought of your children's and family's and friends' encouragement (and perhaps even experiencing their support enroute)! And for me, I get to ride the Absa Cape Epic 2020 with my biggest supporter: my loving and super-patient and understanding partner in life and living, Dries.
