Named after the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility, Ceres has long been a mecca for South African mountain bikers as it is home to the famed Eselfontein trails - the oldest purpose built trails in South Africa. Amazingly though, the Absa Cape Epic has visited the region on numerous occasions and 2021 is only the second time the race has overnighted in the small Warmbokkeveld town. The last visit was a decade ago; since 2010 much has changed, but the rugged landscape remains the domain of real mountain bikers. Only those with technical bike handling skills will thrive out here.

To test your mettle ahead of the 2021 Absa Cape Epic, we recommend a trip out to the oldest farm in the Ceres Valley: Eselfontein. Please visit www.eselfontein.co.za for the relevant permissions or even to book an overnight stay in one of the farm's cottages. Garnering experience out here is sure to stand any rider in good stead ahead of the 2021 Race. The 2021 Absa Cape Epic race village is based at the Ceres Sports Grounds.
