Oakley Sponsorship Announced
Oakley, recognised as one of the most coveted brands in performance technology and lifestyle eyewear since 1975, will be joining in many of the country’s and some of the world’s best cyclists in looking beyond their limits and igniting the fire of true sportsmanship as approximately 600 teams of two compete in this tough 8 day race.

Exxaro Academy Team Selected
With the most talented riders identified, the Academy’s first training camp was held at Mankele MTB Lodge near Nelspruit from 16-19 January 2012.  22 development riders participated in this three-day event. Apart from hard riding, technical workshops were also presented and riders were briefed on important information like discipline, proper nutrition and teamwork.

Telkom Business Masters' Jersey
Telkom Business, a headline sponsor of the Absa Cape Epic, will sponsor the Masters Category of this year’s event with the goal of making the Telkom Business Masters blue jersey the most coveted jersey in international Masters mountain biking. To be eligible to ride in this category, both riders have to be 40 years or older in the year the event takes place.

The Importance of Hydration

The Summer heat is here in full force, and proper hydration while on the bike is now very important. There’s plenty of opportunity now for hot weather training before the 2012 Absa Cape Epic to put a hydration strategy into practice and to see how your body reacts when the temperature rises. Woolworths Dietician and 2012 Absa Cape Epic participant, Maryke van Zyl, provides some tips for a proper hydration strategy.

Woolworths Dietician Tackles Epic
Maryke van Zyl may think that she’s bitten off more than she can chew, but with her expertise, and a good training program, she’ll no doubt be ready for what may be one of her greatest challenges yet. Here she advises others on how to fuel the body before, during and after the monumental task of eight days, 781km and 16300m of climbing.

Niyonshuti's Goals for 2012
Adrien Niyonshuti is the survivor of 7 siblings after the Rwandan genocide slaughter of 1994. In 2011, he was selected to represent his home country in the 2012 Olympic games riding the mountain bike cross-country event. To say his journey is a remarkable one would be a staggering understatement.
